Perennial.  Europe.  Bunch. When thickly seeded, hard fescue forms soft, finely-textured, blue-green carpet. Until buffalo grass is bred for the cold in northern climates, hard fescue will remain one of our favorite grasses for use as a truly, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant lawn.  Not technically a native.  However, it is widely adapted to wild places throughout North America.
